A mari usque ad mare/ Canadian Landscapes - Saxophone & Organ

Claudia Tesorino – Soprano – & Alto – Saxophones
Jonathan Oldengarm – Organ

Indian Summer, impressive mountain worlds, and so much more: Canada’s breathtaking landscapes have inspired modernism in arts and music.
“Canadian Landscapes” presents premier recordings of works for saxophone and organ by composers closely linked to Canada’s contemporary music scene.
The recording’s focal point is on “Northern Landscapes” by Derek Healey. Inspired by Canadian modernist paintings, Healey portrays the stark contrasts of a country with a national motto like a promise: “A mari usque ad mare” – from sea to sea.
Works by critically acclaimed composers like Ruth Watson Henderson, Denis Bédard, Wolfgang Bottenberg, and Peter Mathews complete the picture.
German-Canadian Claudia Tesorino is one of the leading ambassadors on the classical saxophone. She has become internationally renowned for her outstanding interpretations in combination with organ.
Together with Montreal based organist Jonathan Oldengarm, Claudia Tesorino discovers “Canadian Landscapes” as soundscapes of playful vastness and mystical depth.

Dawning Together - Saxophone & Organ

Claudia Tesorino – Soprano – & Alto – Saxophones
Armin Thalheim – Organ

Two worlds collide – and become one: on ‘Dawning Together’, German-Canadian saxophonist Claudia Tesorino and Berlin-based organist Armin Thalheim create new sound worlds with their unlike instruments. Their CD documents a fascinating musical friendship beyond the trodden paths.

Claudia Tesorino, internationally much-in-demand, is at home in a variety of styles: she proves that jazz and classical, big band and premiere performances of contemporary music are not irreconcilable. The organ is part of this broad sonic palette, as a matter of course. ‘Dawning Together’ grew from free improvisation, the greatest challenge of making music together. Its ideal: to give flight to the dynamics of musicianship with as few pre-set arrangements as possible. In order to shape this freedom, so as not to be lost in arbitrary meaninglessness, skilful experts are needed. Together, the musicians wrestle for the beauty of the moment. The result: magical moments and a stunning diversity of colours and atmospheres.
